Fatalities Among Civilians in the Irish War of Independence.
As is always the case in war, the civilian population suffered in the War of Independence. In contrast to the Easter Rising, many of the deaths in the War of Independence were intentionally carried out. Raids on the homes of suspected sympathizers of either side, killing in retaliation for actions by the opposition, and outright terrorism was common. In constructing this list it was sometimes hard to define what comprised a civilian. Some of the victims were inactive or former members of the IRA or RIC and others were harboring family members who were active members but they, themselves, were taking no part.
Comments and questions are welcome.
