Fatalities Among Republicans in the Irish War of Independence
Most of the Republican actions
were carried out by the Irish Republican Army (IRA). However, other
organizations existed before the War or Independence began. The IRA became
prominent after the Easter Rising of 1916. Most members of the other
groups joined, or acted with, the IRA. Some retained their original allegiance
and it is so noted here. These were the Irish Volunteers (IV) and the
Irish Republican Brotherhood (IRB). Another group was the Na Fianna Eireann,
officially composed or people under the age of about eighteen, usually acting
with the IRA.
